From the Love of Dolls series

1993

mixed technique, canvas, 74×52 cm

purchased in 2023 with support from the Czech Republic Ministry of Culture

This work is part of the larger installation cycle Doll Loves, reflecting the artist's return to traditional means of expression such as drawing and painting. The entire series of canvases is interlinked with eight artist’s books vertically mounted on the wall. It also refers back to the artist’s abstract painting of the 1980s. In this series, she distanced herself from the use of tangible objects and instead turned to imagination—capturing human emotions, psychological states, love, and hate.

A key element is the symbolism of colours: red represents love, polychromy stands for disharmony, while grey-black signifies extreme or borderline situations. Painterly techniques are intentionally suppressed here, replaced by dynamic gestures such as fingerprints and finger strokes. The dolls are shaped into distinctive compositional arrangements that reflect communication and emotional relationships.
