This exhibition views the work of this major Polish artist from a broad perspective. It presents the areas of her interest and the issues she addresses – including various forms of experiencing and defining identity, the body and sexuality, cultural taboos, and critical descriptions of reality. The exhibition ranges from the award-winning Men’s Bathhouse (presented at the Venice Biennale) to the project Looking for Jesus and Kozyra’s latest performative activities.
Katarzyna Kozyra’s art emerges from her own self as a subject that both performs and is performed; her means of expression include photography, sculpture, installation and video. From a perspective of more than three decades of intense artistic activity, we can state that the core issue at the heart of Kozyra’s work is identity and its formation. This focus has guided the selection of works that are presented at the exhibition.
