GVUO GEN* / TEREZIE FOLDYNOVÁ / Darkroom in The Garden and The Garden in The Darkroom

5. 3. – 30. 3. 2025

The opening was taken place on Tuesday 4 March at 5 p.m.

Terezie Foldynová (*1985) is an experimental photographer. She studied under Michal Kalhous at the Photography Studio of Ostrava University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, and she also graduated in Czech Language and Literature from the University’s Faculty of Arts. Terezie is a philosophizing author whose predestinative reflections on artistic creation take literary and poetic forms. Within the medium of photography she also ventures into a variety of experimental realms including chemiography, the phytogram method, collage, or the combination of photography with texts. Besides exploring themes related to family and the backdrop of the lived world, her work often centres around natural entities from her own garden – trees, leaves, conifer needles and plants. She interrogates the autonomy of these entities along a scale ranging from classic photographic images, via transcriptions of the natural shapes of freely arranged plants onto photosensitive paper, to radical experimental procedures in which parts of plants are dipped into ecological photographic developers in order to serve as tools for imprinting or drawing.

The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava is opening up a space that used to be a lecture hall as a new venue for short-term independent interventions and projects by young and middle-generation artists. The aim is to create a kind of lab for experimenting, playing and creativity – all of which are natural attributes of Ostrava’s young artists. The concept will further enhance the gallery’s long-standing collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Ostrava, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the art scene. We are confident that the broad platform offered by the faculty (encompassing not only fine art, but also production and performing arts) will help to create a multidisciplinary, open community environment. The second exhibition will present the work of the photographer Terezie Foldynová.
