Miloš Urbásek was one of the most prominent Slovak artists working within the paradigms of geometric abstraction and lettrism. In the 1960s his work turned away from the informel (represented at the Confrontations exhibitions) and began to systematically explore geometric forms. This untitled work (1976–1978) is one of his most advanced geometric studies. It demonstrates Urbásek’s intense focus on light when structuring colour transitions and contrasting fields. It can be viewed as an important example of Central European geometric abstraction in the second half of the 20th century.
