The work Object 1963 is a splendid example of how painting is linked with a combined object. The object in the shape of a cube covered with precise, fine, almost old-master-like painting is rendered even more outlandish by the addition of various projections, craters and wires that are intended to unify the old style painting with the artistic reality of the time. Dlouhý was masterful in his treatment of the work’s material. The overall concept seems to parody painting, work with objects and the basis of previous art. The cube stands on an imitation historical base of bent dark wood, which simply underscores the humorous point of the entire work.
