Artistic treasures from the collections of the Czech National Bank

26. 9. – 25. 11. 2012

The exhibition aims to present significant works of art owned by the Czech National Bank. Although it is not a collecting institution, its collection can be regarded as a full-fledged and high-quality assemblage worthy of gallery presentation.

The archival holdings of the Czech National Bank offer genuine artistic and historical treasures, such as works by Alfons Mucha, Max Švabinský, and last but not least, Oldřich Kulhánek. These pieces serve as a link between history and the present, demonstrating the high artistic quality of our banknotes.

The exhibition will showcase acquisitions made especially during the 1990s, but also a selection of the finest works from the First Republic period, naturally dominated by landscape themes. Since the exhibition takes place in Ostrava, the selection will primarily include works associated with this region.

The presented artworks will encompass both prominent figures of Czech painting in their most representative form, as well as examples of the best works on paper, which numerically dominate the CNB collection.
